19 April 2013-Siblings and actors Suriya and Karthi have jointly donated Rs.1 crore for the construction of cinema auditoriums inside the premises of the film Chamber in Chennai. Known for his philanthropic activities through his Agaram Foundation and in many other ways.
Suriya, who is working like a busy-bee in films, also finds time to devote to his work relating to socially-relevant causes, this time around has involved his younger brother Karthi also in the latest act.
A part of the building housing the Film Chamber, situated at Chennai’s Anna Salai has already been renovated and plans are afoot to renovate and rebuild the other portion of the building. It is planned to demolish a theatre which is in existence now and to build as many as three cinema halls. Suriya & Karthi’s donation would be used up for building these halls.
When the Chamber authorities informed the brothers that they planned to name the new cinema halls after them, the brothers told them to name the complex after their father and actor Sivakumar.
Either Sivakumar’s name or his wife Lakshmi’s name would be given to the new halls, it is learnt.
