suryaKuala Lumpur – Selliyal’s story on the alleged donation of RM250,000-00 for Agaram Foundation demanded by actor Suriya for attending “Maha Hindu Youth Unity Festival 2016” has gone viral. The story was first published by Selliyal.com on Tuesday after picking up the information from a  facebook posting by Arun Doraisamy, one of the organisers for the event.

After verifying the facts with Arun Doraisamy, the story was highlighted in Selliyal. The story was picked up by several newsportals in India, and became viral among social media enthusiasts. Some local internet news portals and Tamil dailies also followed up on the story first published by Selliyal.

With a view of fair and neutral reporting we also made an attempt to seek a reply from Surya himself through our sources in Tamil Nadu.

Suriya posted his lengthy reply in Tamil on his twitter page duly signed by him and released from Chennai. In his reply which is titled “Dear All in Malaysia” Suriya denied knowledge of any such invitation and also denied demanding any money from the organisers.

We reproduce below the English Translation of Suriya’s reply in Tamil:

“ Vanakkam to all of you!

There have been some news reports in Malaysian Tamil media about me which I was not aware. The news reports claim that I was asking for few lakhs of money to attend a religious based function called “Maha Hindu Youth Unity Festival”. This news was also shared by many in social media.

However, I am not aware of this function and the related facts. No one approached me to attend this function. Artistes are beyond the borders of caste, religion and language. Since I am an artiste I would not have agreed to attend a function organized along religious lines. I am keen in attending functions based on social development, social reforms and awareness but I never accept payment for attending such functions. I am principled in that I should not receive any money for attending a function. Therefore there is not even an iota of truth in the news that I was demanding money for attending a function.

I have no connection with purported function in Malaysia titled “Maha Hindu Youth Unity Festival. If the organisers of this function use my name in any detrimental manner I will accordingly seek legal redress through appropriate manner.

It is sad to see such news appear very often. This is my humble appeal to all those who love me. I urge them to ignore such news about me in future. I request all of you to stand by me in my good deeds and support my endeavours for noble causes.

Suriya
