Chong Itt ChewALOR SETAR, April 22 – The Kedah MCA believes that the Barisan Nasional’s chances of winning the Alor Setar parliamentary seat and the three state seats under it in the May 5 general election are brighter following weaknesses in the opposition pact.

Kedah MCA chairman Datuk Chong Itt Chew(pic) said that the party, during its campaigns, had heard numerous complaints from the constituents of Alor Setar that they were disappointed with the lack of attention given by the opposition to their grouses and that their phone calls were not even answered.

“So the constituents have decided to reject the opposition candidates,” he told a news conference here today.

Chong said he also believed that the BN could win because he himself had seen the disunity among the opposition parties. He also urged the people of Kedah not to vote for the independent candidates because only the BN could bring development to the state.

“We can see for ourselves that the average income of Kedahans is low compared with the other states, so with the plans drawn up by the BN, the people of Kedah will be able to raise their incomes,” he said.

The MCA is defending its Alor Setar parliamentary seat held by Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung, who will face Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Gooi Hsiao Leung, Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia’s (Berjasa) Abdul Fisol Mohd Isa and Parti Bersatu Sasa Malaysia’s (Bersama) Jawahar Raja Abdul Wahid.

For the Kota Darul Aman state seat the party is fielding Loh Gim Hui against independent candidates Liew Kard Seong and A. Jayagopal and Teoh Boon Kok of DAP.  The BN is represented by Kedah BN chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah for the Bakar Basta state seat and Sharifah Maznah Syed Kassim Barakbah for the Alor Mengkudu state seat.
