KOTA KINABALU, April 24 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tonight urged the Chinese community in Sabah to choose a government that can guarantee the country’s security which was important for continued economic growth. He said that peace and security were the two main elements needed for a conducive business environment.
He stressed that Barisan Nasional (BN) was the only government that could guarantee both elements in sustaining economic growth.
“A vote for the BN is a vote for peace and security of Malaysia. I give you my word. Think wisely, think of your future and your children. Please make the right choice,” he said in his speech at a gathering with the Chinese community at the Hakka Hall, here.
Present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. Najib drove home the point that the BN had proven its capability as a responsible government by delivering more wealth for distribution among the various communities.
“When the European economy is shrinking, the United States’ economy is struggling, Malaysia is doing well with an economic growth of 5.6 per cent,” he told a crowd of about 2,000 people from 134 Chinese associations in Sabah.
Taking a swipe at the opposition’s call for change, Najib said this was unnecessary given that the BN government had managed the country’s economy well and created more jobs for the people. Najib drew attention to the fact that the government had never marginalised any race in the country and this was proven, among others, in the field of
education with allocations disbursed to Chinese, Tamil and missionary schools.
Echoing Najib’s sentiments, Musa said the BN was a business-friendly government that listened and found solutions to issues raised by the Chinese community.
“It cannot be denied that economic prosperity we enjoy today is due to political stability and the efficiency of the government administration,” he said.
Musa said the government has responded swiftly to the Lahad Datu intrusion by armed foreign militants and there should be no reason for investors to be worried about their safety or their business ventures.
