BATU PAHAT, April 30 – The country might face a big threat if the opposition held the reins of the government as foreign powers behind them will meddle in the administration, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Do not be misled by the opposition since foreign powers, who are behind them, are ready to interfere if Anwar (Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) were to become the prime minister.
“However, their pact is becoming fragile,” he when opening the SJKC Yong Peng 2 here today.
Urging the people to thwart the opposition’s foray convincingly, Muhyiddin said the country would also be at a losing end if the opposition were to take over for they were not united.
“I read in the newspapers today, that they are quarrelling among themselves. Maybe, they have kept it under wraps for a year or two. But now, it is out in the open, one of their partners (DAP) told the people not to vote for PAS,” he said.
He said Anwar had never been honest in his political struggles, resulting in his comrades, who were founding members of Keadilan (now Parti Keadilan Rakyat), to desert him. Muhyiddin said PAS was adamant in creating an Islamic state and implementing hudud (Islamic law) while its ally, the DAP was against it.
He said PAS was only able to build a mosque in Kelantan despite being at the helm for 23 years. He called on the people to think carefully before making their choice in the 13th General Election for their vote would determine the government for the next five years.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) government needed the people’s votes to defend the country from inconceivable ideology, beliefs, customs and culture, stressed the deputy prime minister.
He said investors were worried if the opposition were to take over the reins of the government, and those (investors) in Johor also feared that billions of ringgit of investment would vanish if the opposition were to win the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat.
Muhyiddin, however, said as BN director of election, he was confident the coalition would return to power and retain Johor due to the government’s transformation agenda and the BN’s hard work.
