Muhyiddin YassinKLUANG,May 1 – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has slammed PAS for putting aside the party’s goal and struggle just to  collaborate with DAP.

He said PAS’ wilingness to compromise with the DAP on Islamic matters caused many supporters to leave the party and support Barisan Nasional (BN).

“I was shocked when they (DAP and PAS) said 95 percent had been settled leaving only five percent, question of establishing an Islamic state and implementing hudud law.

“PAS leaders stooped too low for fear that the DAP will leave Pakatan Rakyat and lose support. They were willing to sacrifice the party’s struggle by putting down the value at a low 5 percent,” he said after attending a 1Malaysia People Rally in Layang Layang attended by over 1,000 people of all races.

It was also attended by his wife Puan Sri Noraineee Abd Rahman, Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad and Simpang Renggam BN chairman Datuk Abdul Hamid Abdul Rahman.

Muhyiddin was responding to a joint statement distributed by PAS Youth in Arau, Perlis yesterday that the difference between PAS and DAP was only 5 percent, that of establishing the Islamic state and implementing hudud law.

“PAS regarded this as trivial while for Muslims it is a big thing. As a party claiming to uphold Islam, PAS should not have compromised on the matter.

“PAS has given up the struggle for an Islamic state and what is left is the struggle for a welfare state,” he said.

The statement signed by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP secretary-general Lim Guang Eng said both parties reached 95 percent agreement on freedom, justice, truth, integrity and democracy.

Muhyiddin said this clearly showed that PAS was incapable of defending its basic principle and struggle and had to depend on the DAP and PKR for support. He was confident that the people was aware of what is happening and will deal a big blow to Pakatan Rakyat and return BN to power.

At the event, Muhyiddin put on the BN shirt on Tenggaroh DAP vice-chairman Abdul Rahman Yusof symbolising his decision to quit the DAP to join Umno.
