PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat has retained Selangor and the question now is whether Khalid Ibrahim will remain as menteri besar.
Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim looked upon Khalid as minister material and entrusted him to contest in a parliamentary and a state seat. The question does not arise now since Pakatan did not form the federal government.
DAP and PAS each have 15 state seats whereas PKR that led the Pakatan Rakyat coalition state government under the leadership of Khalid have one seat less at 14.
DAP is not in the equation as the Selangor state constitution stipulates that a MB must be a Malay Muslim
The most senior DAP leader in Selangor is Sungai Pinang’s state legislative representative, Teng Chang Khim. He was the state speaker in the previous session.
PAS meanwhile is led by its commissioner Dr Rani Osman.
However, Khalid’s performance in leading the Pakatan coalition is impressive as can be seen in the increase of Pakatan held seats in Selangor.
One seat that PKR could have won but lost due to multiple claims by Pakatan component parties is Kota Damansara.
Incumbent Dr Nasir Hashim of Parti Sosialis Malaysia who contested on PKR’s ticket polled 14,860 votes against Umno’s Halimaton Saadiah Bohan’s 16,387 votes.
Even though PAS had announced it is pulling out from the race in this constituency, Ridzuan Ismail emerged a spoiler as he polled 7,312 votes.
