keralaTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM (Kerala) May 17- The cabinet has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh (about US$45,587) to transform Kottayam city in south west Kerala state into a mural city, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

The sum is in addition to Rs 50 lakh (US$91,147) earmarked earlier for the  project undertaken by the Kerala Lalitkala Academy, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said during a cabinet briefing on Wednesday.

More than 300 mural painters from across the world will paint on public walls, roads, railway stations, government offices, temples, churches and other public places in Kottayam.  Apart from traditional and natural colours, artists will use mosaic, tiles, terracotta and cement to create their ideas on walls. All mural creations will be preserved by the Kerala government.
