NYERI, KENYA, May 22- President Uhuru Kenyatta (photo) has assured Kenyans that his government will work with all elected leaders irrespective of party affiliations to ensure that peace and unity prevailed in the country so as to achieve tangible development.
Speaking at various roadside meetings during a meet-the-people tour of Nyeri County in central Kenya Tuesday, he emphasised that politics were over and all elected leaders should now settle down and deliver on their mandate following the March general election.
Stopping at Karatina town, Sagana, Kiamariga, Ruthagati and Ngorano trading centres to acknowledge greetings from enthusiastic crowds, he said Kenyans should now focus their energy on economic activities which would improve on their income and therefore uplift their living standards.
“Elections are over. Let’s join hands to uplift the standards of living of our people. Let us also ensure peace, security and unity prevail in the country so that the economy grows.”
The President challenged elected leaders agitating for higher pay to rise above personal interests and strive to serve the national good for the benefit of all Kenyans.
He also called on the youth to avoid any activity which would put them in conflict with the law and engage in activities which would guarantee them decent lives. He said the government was committed to developing programmes which would improve the economy to create employment for unemployed youth.
