ALOR SETAR, May 23- Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir today challenged the opposition pact to relinquish their rule in Penang, Selangor and Kelantan if they still cannot accept the results of the recent 13th general election (GE13).
He also asked the opposition not to go on confusing the people by manipulating the popular vote issue.
“It is improper for them to try to force the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to withdraw from the states that BN won, while they (opposition) themselves don’t want to do the same for the states they won. Pakatan should indeed reject all the GE13 results including in the states they won,” he said in a statement, here.
He urged Parti Keadilan Rakyat advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his ilk in the opposition to be remorseful and not be a stubbling block to the people’s desire for the betterment of their lot.
He said they should not be wasting time on protest gatherings that could disrupt harmony and tarnish the image of the country, in particular, peaceful Kedah.
Mukhriz said the turnout at the opposition-organised Black 505 Gathering at the PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut here last night, was too small compared to the majority of the people in the state who rejected the destructive culture brought by Anwar.
“The people have used their right to choose a government that can bring a big change to Kedah,” he said. Mukhriz said the focus of the newly-elected state government under BN would be on fulfilling the pledges in its manifesto within the next five years and to carry out transformation in generating development for the benefit of the people, regardless of their background and political ideology.
“Therefore, I urge the people to now focus their attention on contributing towards making Kedah a developed state,” he added.
