senatorKUALA LUMPUR, May 28- Senator Datuk Boon Som Inong (photo)  regards the suggestion by DAP chairman Karpal Singh for the Federal Constitution to be amended to allow for the abolition of the Senate as an insult.

karpalBesides ridiculing the Federal Constitution, Boon said, such a suggestion also insulted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who appointed members of the Senate.

“The statement by Karpal Singh gives a picture that the appointment by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is useless,” Boon said in a statement, here, today.

He also said that the claim by Karpal that the Senate was a waste was baseless. “The presence of the Senate is to provide a balance in the formulation of laws by members of Parliament who are chosen through the election process.

“Since the Senate comprises representatives from the states, the various professions and also the minority groups like the Orang Asli and the Siamese community, they too have the right and chance to give their views on the laws that are passed by Parliament,” he added.

Boon also regarded the suggestion by Karpal as an attempt to deny the minority groups, the freedom of speech.
