JAKARTA, June 12 – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu (photo)  said the tourism sector “will be fixed” to attract more foreign tourists and to encourage higher economic growth.

Mari Elka Pangestu_2“It is very important to fix the tourism sector in the regions to push the economy there to grow higher,” Indonesian news agency ANTARA quoted Mari as saying on Tuesday.

She said more foreign tourists would visit the regions if domestic companies worked on the tourism sector in those areas.

“We are optimistic that the economy in the regions will grow higher if the tourism sector there is fixed and managed well,” Mari said.

According to her, foreign tourists generally come from Asia such as South Korea, the Philippines and Japan.

The number of Japanese tourists to Indonesia has also increased from five percent to 10 percent this year, she said.

“Interestingly, tourist arrivals from the United States and Europe are also high although economic growth in those two regions is uncertain.”
