June 13 – With the dateline for filing election petitions ending yesterday, it is believed that the results of 3 hotly contested seats namely Cameron Highlands, Segamat and Labis have been challenged.
The Special court for election petitions will hear these applications and dispose of within a period of 6 months.
In Cameron Highlands (Pahang) MIC President Dato Seri G.Palanivel defeated DAP candidate M.Manogaran by 462 votes.
In Segamat (Johor) MIC Deputy President Dato Seri Dr S.Subramaniam won against PKR candidate Dato Chua Jui Meng with a majority of 1,217 votes.
In Labis (Johor) DAP candidate S.Ramakrishnan lost to BN-MCA candidate Chua Tee Yong by 353 votes. Chua is also the son of MCA President Chua Soi Lek.
The reasons for the challenge to the results of these constituencies are not known yet.
However, if these election petitions are accepted by the Special court then these constituencies may witness tough by-election battles in view of the narrow margin of votes with which the BN candidates have won.
