KUCHING, June 17 – Reintroducing the repealed Internal Security Act (ISA) is not a reasonable measure to overcome activities that touch on racial issues, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri (photo) said today.
She said the more than 900 laws in force were adequate for that if they were enforced effectively.
“It is not to say that these laws are ineffective. They only thing is that they have not been fully implemented,” she told a news conference after attending a briefing at the Kuching Courts Complex, here.
Nancy said certain quarters had criticised the government for repealing the ISA but added that the move had placed Malaysia ahead of several other countries.
“Maybe, at this time, we have yet to have an alternative (law to replace the ISA), but we are considering all angles for a suitable mechanism to act upon cases which came under the ISA previously,” she said.
