TAWAU, July 27- The Tawau Court Complex is facing a pressing need for additional space in order to provide better working conditions and safety, said Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri here Friday.
“I’ve seen for myself this critical situation now. The working conditions are not conducive to providing quality service and there is serious concern over security aspects too.
“It’s a pressing need for them to have an additional building or at least renovations to solve the problem,” she told Bernama after visiting the complex.
The case for an additional building was also strengthened by the growing population of Tawau and the fact that only Sabah courts heard late registration of births.
Nancy visited the court lock up as well and observed that it was in a derelict condition and needed the immediate approval of funds, which the court had applied for earlier.
She emphasised that it would be her duty to convince the government to speed up the necessary allocation and to justify the urgent need for it.
Commenting on the courts’ need to upgrade security, Nancy said she would be raising the matter at the coordination meeting with the Home Minister (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) and the other two Ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Paul Low Seng Kwan and Datuk Seri Idris Jala.
