KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 – An investigation by the Election Commission (EC) revealed that the propaganda about 40,000 Bangladeshis voting in the 13th general election was a lie by several groups with vested interests.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said the claim by certain quarters through the social media that Bangladesh nationals had converged on Malaysia within a week to vote in GE13 was nonsensical.
“The EC will scrutinise every accusation and conduct an investigation aimed at improving shortcomings during the GE13. Dissatisfied parties must submit a petition.
“Without detailed and concrete information, claims made are merely for political purposes,” he said when replying to Senator Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim at the Dewan Negara yesterday.
Dr Mashitah wanted to know if the EC planned to take legal action against political parties or individuals who made the false accusation and slandered the organisation before and after GE13.
It was up to the EC, Shahidan replied.
