KUANG, Aug 5- Only five UMNO branches in the Selayang division held their general meetings during the fasting month while the remaining 140 branches will meet after Aidilfitri, said Selangor UMNO Liaison deputy chairman, Abdul Shukur Idrus.
“Most of the branches choose to hold their general meetings during the Hari Raya season because they can hold their Aidilfitri Open House at the branch levels at the same time,” said Abdul Shukur, who is also the Selayang UMNO division head, at the Kuang State constituency ‘dodol-making’ programme at Tasik Biru, in Kuang, Saturday night.
He said every branch would be given RM500 to hold their respective general meetings.
A total of 2,333 UMNO branches throughout Selangor were scheduled to hold their meetings between July 15 and Aug 31.
Asked whether there were any Selangor UMNO leader contesting in the election for Supreme Council members this time, he said: “So far, I have not heard officially about Selangor UMNO leaders offering themselves as candidates for the UMNO Supreme Council.”
