KANGAR, Aug 27- The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) has appealed to the government to expedite absorbing 45,000 contract workers as permanent employees to ensure their future.
Its president Datuk Omar Osman said the matter could be implemented as vacant posts in the civil service have now exceeded 100,000.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting and dialogue with civil servants organised by the Perlis Cuepacs, here today, he hoped the matter could be realised by end of December next year.
According to Omar, it was not fair if contract workers who had served for the government for so long were not absorbed as permanent staff despite attending numerous interviews when outsiders with no experience were seen easily getting offers for permanent posts.
“This appears as if there is discrimination in the civil service when many contract workers showed excellent performance in the their service,” he said at the ceremony which was also attended by Perlis Cuepacs chairman, Md Jamel Khir Ismail.
