KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 National laureate Datuk A Samad Said, 80, was arrested by police just after midnight Wednesday for investigations into the waving of an alternative flag on Merdeka eve at Dataran Merdeka.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad when contacted said Samad was picked up at his house in Bangsar Utama at 12.25am and was taken to the Dang Wangi Police District Headquarters for investigations under the Sedition Act 1948.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had earlier asked Samad to surrender to police to help in investigations into the flag-waving incident during a pre-Merdeka event on Friday night.
Samad was also said to have recited a poem at the event which was uploaded on You Tube.
Police also arrested activists Hishamuddin Rais and Adam Adli on Monday over the incident. They have since been released.
