1,800 Branches, 156 Divisions Have Completed AGM – Gerakan Sec-Gen

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11- About 1,800 branches and 156 divisions have completed their Annual General Meetings (AGM) and election in July and August, said Gerakan secretary-general Datuk Mah Siew Keong.

Certain states had also completed their state elections, he said in a statement, Tuesday.

“The party election has been going on smoothly thus far,” he said.

mah-siew-kNegeri Sembilan saw a three-corner fight before Choong Vee Hing was elected as the new state chairman while Datuk Lee Ah Fat has won the contest to remain as Melaka Gerakan chairman while the only unopposed candidate was Datuk Yap Kea Ping of Terengganu who was returned unopposed.

Pahang and Penang will witness head-to-head clashes in the state AGM this Sunday.

He said the culmination would be the Gerakan National Delegates Conference which will be held on Oct 26, at the party’s headquarters in Menara PGRM.

Mah urged candidates who won or lost to close ranks among party members after the party election and work together to strengthen the party.

“After two successive defeats in the 2008 and 2013 General Elections, we cannot afford to be split and have infighting.

“Gerakan need to strengthen itself in order to not face another wipe out in the next General Election,” he said.
