KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17- The MIC wants the government to make plans to empower the socio-economic status of the poor from the other races, said deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
“The MIC has no objection to the government efforts (empower the economy of Bumiputeras), but I want to remind that there many groups are still marginalised, especially the Indians.
“I hope that large scale programmes can be planned so that the Indian community can develop,” he told reporters at Vinayagar Kasipillai Hindu temple, here yesterday.
The Health Minister also said he had applied for a larger allocation under Budget 2014 to allow the ministry to to upgrade the infrastructure in hospitals.
This is because many hospitals and clinics in rural areas are in need of repair to ensure they can provide the best health services to the people.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) received an allocation of RM20 billion in Budget 2013 and spent most of it on medication subsidy.
