KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 – A total of 261 nomination forms were submitted for the 2013 Umno central level election as at the 5 pm closing time Saturday.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said they comprised 76 forms for the Supreme Council, Wanita (53), Youth (94) and Puteri (38).
At a press conference today, he said there was one nomination for the post of Permanent Chairman, Permanent Deputy Chairman (3), President (1), Deputy President (1), Vice-President (6) and Supreme Council members (64).
As for the Wanita wing, Permanent Chairman (1), Permanent Deputy Chairman (3), Chief (3), vice-chief (2) and Executive Committee (Exco) (44).
Whereas the Youth was, Permanent Chairman (3), Permanent Deputy Chairman (5), Chief (5), Vice-chief (4) and 77 for Exco members.
The Puteri movement saw, Permanent Chairman (1), Permanent Deputy Chairman (2), Chief (2), Vice-chief (3) and Exco (30).
Meanwhile, the 2013 Umno Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Tajol Rosli said so far five of the posts have been won uncontested, namely Permanent Chairman, President, Deputy President, Wanita Permanent Chairman and Puteri Permanent Chairman.
He said the complete list of candidates contesting will be finalised next Tuesday but may be announced tomorrow.
“The divisional candidates have 72 hours for the cooling off period and may withdraw their nominations anytime during this period,” he said.
Commenting on the post of President and Deputy President which were uncontested, he said it was a good move which reflected Umno’s maturity.
“It’s good for Umno because it shows the party is matured, strong and not divided,” he said.
