PUTRAJAYA, Sept 27- The management of security at important installations in the country needs a transformation and improvement, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
According to Zahid, other than just focusing on existing installations, the issue of cyber security should also be given attention.
“For example, the security at power plants, dams and oil platforms must be maintained.
“But new installations such as cyber centres, electronic data centres and other important targets involving cyber must also be taken into account,” he said when opening the 2013 National-Level Seminar on Important Targets, here, on Thursday.
The seminar, organised by the Important Target Centre Committee and the Office of the Government’s Chief Security Officer, was aimed at discussing issues related to improving and transforming security management at important national installations.
The 13 important target sectors nationwide include power generation, oil, transportation, irrigation, armament, chemical, food, water, radiation, telecommunication, broadcasting, gas and printing.
Zahid said efforts to boost the level of security of important targets must be done using an integrated approach, namely a combination of technology and manpower.
He said the owners of every installation needed to have their own security teams.
“Other than close-circuit televisions, they also need manpower. Many important installations have also given their officers and personnel Territorial Army training. Those who have yet to do so are urged to comply,” he said.
