Kuala Lumpur,Oct 14- The home of Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man in Bukit Persekutuan here was razed in a fire last night.
Four members of his family who were in the double story bungalow in Bukit Persekutuan here escaped unhurt, in the 10.30pm incident.
Sentul Fire and Rescue commander of operations Zahari Mohamad said the family members were upstairs and rushed out of the house upon realising it was on fire.
He said six fire engines with 57 firemen from the Hang Tuah, Sentul, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Seputeh fire stations rushed to the scene when alerted.
“By the time the firemen reached the house, almost 60 per cent of the house had burnt down as the structure was mainly wooden. Furthermore, the firemen had to obtain water as far away as 500 metres from the house,” he told reporters at the scene.
He said the fire was brought under control 30 minutes later and the cause of the fire and losses were still being investigated.
In Kangar, Azlan told Bernama that he was thankful his family members were safe, adding that his family had been staying at the bungalow since he was in the civil service.
“I have yet to return home to check the condition of the house due to my tight schedule, but my wife has left for Kuala Lumpur,” he said when met after a function to present allowance to the chairmen and secretaries of the village development and security committees in Perlis.
