Seven Resolutions Put Forward At MIC AGM To Uplift Socio-economy Of Indian Community

Melaka, Dec 2- The 67th MIC Annual General Meeting (AGM) adopted seven resolutions put forward by delegates that were aimed at uplifting the socio-economy of the Indian community in the country.

The resolutions comprised calls for equity, business loans, contracts, entrepreneur development, special economic plan, efforts to increase students in Tamil schools and transformation of the Indian community.

The resolutions tabled by MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam, who is also the Health Minister, urged the government to set up a special economic transformation unit for Indians under the Finance Ministry or Economic Planning Unit.

“MIC welcomes the efforts by the government in the transformation of economy in general and the allocation for the Indian community to be competitive in the race with other races,” he said.

Dr Subramaniam also proposed an increase of job opportunities for Indians in the public sector and ensure about 20 percent worked in the government sector.

As for housing, Dr Subramaniam urged the government to introduce a special scheme which would give flexibility to plantation workers to buy houses.

The resolution also pledged full support for the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s leadership and the government’s transformation agenda to become a developed nation by 2020.

The resolutions received unanimous support from the delegates who attended the two-day AGM which was opened by Najib this morning.
