Bagan Datoh, Dec 31 – There is no reason to topple the government through street protests over rising cost of living as the leadership is doing its best to deal with the situation, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan.
He said the Barisan Nasional-led government was taking measures to ease the people’s burden as entrusted.
“The call to overthrow the government is unwarranted as the BN government has strived to extend various assistance to the people, apart from providing subsidies worth billions of ringgit,” he told reporters after giving a briefing on current issues to community leaders in the Bagan Datoh parliamentary constituency here Monday.
Ahmad, who is also Umno information chief, said the prime minister would continue the 10-package assistance to the people to offset rising cost of living despite being hurled with slanders by the opposition.
“The government has the financial ability to carry out dedicated programmes to ease the people’s burden as a mark of appreciation for their support,” he added.
The 10-package assistance includes the 1Malaysia People’s Aid, school aid, health subsidies, funds for entrepreneurs, and fishermen and farmers aid.
