Kuala Terengganu, Feb 27 – The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism will introduce the sale of fresh products at Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) in the Klang Valley from March 1.
Its deputy minister Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the pilot project which will eventually involve 126 KRIM stores nationwide was in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry together with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) which will supply the fresh items such as fish, vegetables and other fresh produce for consumers daily needs.
“Before this only dry items were available at KR1M shops and fresh items had to be purchased elsewhere.
“But come March 1, we will be selling fresh products at KR1M stores in the Klang Valley as a pilot project and if successful we will introduce it nationwide,” he said during a promotion of Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia (MR1M) at Kedai Makan Sinah here during a visit to Terengganu today.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Bashah said there were 4,367 food premises including 387 in the Terengganu which have joined MR1M since it was introduced in 2011.
From the total as many as 3,627 MR1M operators including the 345 in Terengganu are still active offering food packages at reasonable prices.
He said for the Retail Shop Transformation (Tukar) stores now there were about 1,635 retail stores including the 156 stores in Terengganu which have been transformed through the Tukar Programme.
Meanwhile, the owner of Kedai Makan Sinah, Sinah Sulaiman, 62, when interviewed, said he had been operating his stall for more than 40 years and had always kept his prices low.
He operates his stall with the help of his five children and three workers.
