“All airports are on high alert in the wake of the Karachi incident,” India’s news channels flashed.

India has 125 airports including 11 international airports, eight custom airports, 81 domestic airports and 25 civil enclaves at military airfields.

According to reports, in a six-hour siege at the Karachi airport quelled by the army, a total of 26 people consisting of 16 civilians and security personnel and 10 militants were killed.

“Pakistan seige continues, two to three terrorists could still be inside the airport,” said reports.

Live ammunition and rockets were recovered from the attackers, reports quoted the Pakistan army as saying. Pakistan officials have also claimed that no aeroplane was destroyed. Tehreek-e-Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to reports.

Karachi is the largest and most populous metropolitan city of Pakistan and its main seaport and financial centre.
