KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22- City folks can follow the live telecast of the ceremony honouring the victims of the flight MH17 tragedy at Dataran Merdeka’s big screen here today.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said another big screen would also be placed at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) building at Jalan Raja Laut.

“Displaying the ceremony on the big screen is aimed at enabling all city folks to see how the remains of the Malaysian victims arrive to the motherland and the last respects to be accorded,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Appreciation of KL Citizens and Tourists for MH17 Victims’ programme at Jalan Raja Laut here Thursday.

Earlier, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the one minute’s silence to respect the remains of the victims of the MH17 tragedy was scheduled to be observed any time as early as 10.30 today morning.

Tengku Adnan said the banners were installed at 28 locations along Jalan Raja Laut here to enable city folks and tourists to honour the tragedy’s victims by signing their names on the banners for three days from yesterday.

A Bernama survey revealed the banners were signed by tourists from Pakistan, Czech dan Slovakia and Cambodia.They also gave words of encouragement to Malaysia Airlines (MAS) such as ‘Stay Strong MAS’ and ‘Going But Not Forgotten” “Love From England” while others wrote in their national languages.

Meanwhile, Michael Tan, the chief executive officer of Parisign Media, the advertising company responsible for installing the panels said they were aimed at uniting the city folks in expressing their sympathy following the MH17 tragedy.

Flight MH17 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it crashed in Donetsk, wast Ukraine last July 17.

The Boeing 777-200, carrying 298 passengers and crew, was shot down.Forty-three of the passengers and crew members were Malaysians and 20 of the remains are scheduled to arrive in the country today.
