New Delhi, September 12 – Microsoft is getting ready to kill the brand name Nokia and Windows Phone. According to a Microsoft internal document leaked on the geekongadgets.com, the company would stop using Nokia brand name from the coming “holiday season”, which means after November or December.
Recently, Microsoft had renamed the Nokia apps on Windows Phone store as Lumia apps. While it was expected that Microsoft will gradually do away with Nokia brand name in marketing and sale-related activities for its phones, decision to move away from using Windows Phone to just Windows is little surprisingly.
Until now, the company has been very particular that Windows is different and Windows Phone is different. But there are rumours that the two are gradually going to merge. The Windows 9, for example, could be an operating system that will scale up or down depending on the screen and hardware of a device.
If Microsoft is merging Windows Phone and Windows into a single operating system in a bid to simplify its product line up as well as to cash in on the Windows brand, it makes sense for the company to gradually phase out the Windows Phone brand name.
