New Delhi, September 23 – Just a few days after it went on sale, the iPhone 6 Plus has been tested by DisplayMate, a technology company that makes hardware to test computer and phone screens. The company’s verdict: The screen used in the iPhone 6 Plus is fantastic.
Raymond Soneira, president of DisplayMate, wrote in a report: “Based on our extensive Lab tests and measurements, the iPhone 6 Plus is the Best performing Smartphone LCD display that we have ever tested. It delivers uniformly consistent all around Top Tier display performance. The iPhone 6 Plus has raised the bar for top LCD display performance up by a notch.”
But the key word here is LCD. Just a few days ago, DisplayMate has tested the screen of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and has found it truly spectacular. Even after the iPhone 6 Plus test, the recommendation that the Note 4 scored remains intact.
“We recently gave the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 our overall Best Smartphone Display award, and for the time being that continues for all of the reasons originally mentioned (in our report),” wrote Soneira.
The iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch LCD screen. It has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. In comparison, the Note 4 uses a Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The LCD displays are better at showing accurate colours but the Super AMOLED displays look more punchy, vibrant and pleasing to eyes.
Soneira also tested the iPhone 6 screen but wasn’t all that impressed with it. He found it had good brightness and colour accuracy but the low resolution was a downer. The display on the iPhone 6 is none-the-less still a very good display, and most buyers will be happy with its performance, but it’s somewhat disappointing that Apple went for satisfactory as opposed to the best.
Maybe that was done for intentional product differentiation with the iPhone 6 Plus, or perhaps to improve their margins… With a 1920 x 1080 (resolution) the iPhone 6 would have taken the crown,” he wrote.
