KUALA LUMPUR, October 10- MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said today the party would comply with any decision of the Registrar of Societies (RoS) pertaining to the party elections held in Melaka on Nov 30 last year.

He said the RoS was investigating a demand for a re-election by some MIC members who alleged misconduct and abuse of power during the last elections.”It is up to the RoS. It is investigating the case. The RoS will decide whether to hold a re-election or otherwise. We (MIC) will comply with its decision,” he told a news conference after chairing a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) at the MIC headquarters.

Former MIC Youth chief Datuk T. Mohan and several party members reportedly lodged an official complaint with the ROS on Jan 10 stating why a re-election was necessary.
Prior to that, Mohan had submitted a memorandum to MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, alleging fraud and abuse of power in the election of the party’s top leadership.

The MIC elections last year saw eight senior leaders contest the three posts of vice-president and 88 candidates, two of them women, vying for the 23 CWC seats.A total of 1,452 delegates voted in the elections to elect the MIC leadership for the 2013-2016 term.

Mohan claimed recently that the RoS had completed its investigation into allegations of misconduct in the MIC elections and it was expected to make an announcement soon.Meanwhile, several Tamil newspapers reported that Mohan intended to stage a protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office on Oct 16 on the issue of the MIC elections.

Palanivel, who is the natural resources and environment minister, called on the party’s youth, wanita, putera and puteri wings to strengthen themselves by focusing on economic, educational and agricultural issues and ensure that their members were registered as voters.

He also said that only temples which submitted complete financial reports would be allocated funds. He said many temples failed to do this.
