JAKARTA, Oct 20 — Jakarta governor Joko Widodo or popularly known as Jokowi was sworn in as Indonesia’s seventh president at parliament building on Monday, Xinhua news agency reported.
Joko and running mate Jusuf Kalla won the presidential election in July, defeating rival ex-general Prabowo Subianto and former coordinating minister for economic affairs Hatta Rajasa.
Joko replaces former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Leaders from around the world attended the inauguration ceremony, including US State Secretary John Kerry, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Timor Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and Papua New Guinew Prime Minister Peter Oneil.
Scores of ministers and special delegates were also present at the ceremony.
