New Delhi, November 19 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the ICC World Cup 2015 on Tuesday along with Australian PM Tony Abbott, former cricketers Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and VVS Laxman at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
All the three former India cricketers are part of Modi’s touring party to Australia, where the prime minister is on a historic trip to bolster ties between the two countries. Gavaskar said the MCG meeting had nothing to do with politics and surely the relations between India and Australia will improve at all levels.
The 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil said he was honoured to be part of the high-priority diplomatic visit and appreciated PM Modi’s effort to include sportspersons in it.
The Indian cricket team will be touring Australia next month for a four-match Test series followed by a triangular ODI tournament also featuring England. Laxman, who has played numerous scintillating knocks against the Aussies, was also all praise for both the prime ministers to improve relations politically and on the field.
