Kuala Lumpur, January 24 – MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam has finally decided to take a strong stand against the party president Dato Seri G.Palanivel and has declared that he would continue to speak his mind on party matters since he has been flooded with requests from party’s branch chairmen and division leaders.
He has even called for a closed door meeting of MIC division chairmen, which is expected to take place today evening at a leading hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
MIC sources said the Deputy President who is usually calm and composed, has decided to take on the president head-on after witnessing a series of events which has affected the party’s image.
For the last two days Subra and his team have been personally calling several divisional heads and leaders to come to Kuala Lumpur to discuss party’s future in view of the latest developments on RoS (Registrar of Societies) letters.
Vice President M.Saravanan, former youth leader T.Mohan and several other CWC members aligned to Subra are also expected to attend the meeting today.
Party sources said it is this bold decision by Subra to call for a meeting of division leaders that prompted Palanivel to issue a strongly worded statement saying “he has not delegated any powers to Deputy President to call for any meetings”.
However, sources close to Subra said, the Deputy President is fed up with the President and has decided to test his strength in the party by taking an open stand against him. Many key leaders including the youth and women wings are behind him and this gives him the added political strength to take on the party President.
In response, Palanivel and some of the key leaders aligned to him have been calling division heads urging them not to attend today’s meeting. However, Subra has decided to go ahead with the meeting.
Some division leaders are said to be taking a neutral stand by not attending today’s meeting in view of the open clash between the top two leaders of the party.
However, party sources claimed that today’s meeting will witness at least 50 division heads voicing their support for the Deputy President and his team, which works out to, approximately one third of the total MIC divisions.
