745 million log on to face book daily through mobile phones!

facebook-mobileNEW YORK, February 6 – About 745 million people across the world log on to Facebook every day through their mobile devices, the social networking site said. Facebook said about 890 million people from a total userbase of 1.39 billion users worldwide access Facebook on a daily basis (daily active users or DAUs), Press Trust of India (PTI) reports.

Around 1.18 billion people access Facebook on their mobile devices at least once a month (monthly active users or MAUs). “DAUs were 890 million on average for December 2014, an increase of 18 percent year-over-year while mobile DAUs surged 34 percent,” Facebook said.

“MAUs were 1.39 billion as of last December, a rise of 13 percent year-over-year while mobile MAUs were 1.19 billion, up 26 percent,” it said. The US and Canada accounted for about 157 million daily users, and Europe and Asia Pacific contributed 217 million and 253 million users respectively.

The rest of the world had 263 million users at the end of the December 2014 quarter. Asia Pacific region accounted for the highest number of users accessing Facebook at least once a month, followed by the rest of the world (436 million), Europe (301 million) and US and Canada (208 million).

The US-based firm reported 34 percent growth in net profit at US$701 million for the quarter ended Dec 31, 2014 against US$523 million in the same quarter of 2013. Its revenues increased 49 percent to US$3.85 billion in the reported quarter from US$2.59 billion in the corresponding quarter last fiscal boosted by higher advertising revenues.

“Revenue from advertising was US$3.59 billion, a 53 percent rise from the same quarter last year. Mobile ad revenue represented about 69 percent of ad revenue for the fourth quarter of 2014, up from 53 percent in the same quarter of 2013,” Facebook said.

For the full year, Facebook saw net profit growing 96 percent to US$2.94 billion with revenues increasing 58 percent to US$12.47 billion. Time spent per person per day across services continued to rise, growing this quarter by more than 10 percent compared to 2014 and this does not even include WhatsApp which joined Facebook late last year.
