KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 — MIC’s 2009 interim Central Working Committee (CWC) has proposed former party secretary-general D.P Vijandran to head the party’s re-election committee.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the proposal to appoint Vijandran, who is also a former deputy speaker of Dewan Rakyat, was decided at a meeting of the interim CWC today.
“We put up the proposal after taking into consideration the views of several party veterans and an offer letter will be sent to him today. I hope he agrees and the appointment of other members will be made after Vijandran has consented,” he told reporters after chairing the meeting at MIC’s headquarters here.
Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister, wants the re-election committee which would be established soon to keep to the re-election schedule for all levels as set by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Elections for the MIC Wanita, Youth, Putera and Puteri wings should be held from April until June while the election for key party posts will be held in July.
