Photo and video-sharing platform Instagram wants to make it easier for users to shield themselves from unwanted comments.
In a recent a blog entry, co-founder Kevin Systrom revealed that two new spam filters have been introduced to automatically block hateful and annoying comments.
One of the filters, which will initially be available only for English-language comments, has been designed to sift through hateful comments left under photos or live videos. It can be activated through the Comments settings.
The second filter has been designed to weed out unwanted advertisements and comments on profiles created to bait users. It does this using machine-learning algorithms.
The spam filter has been trained to work with comments in English, Spanish and German, among others.
