Kuala Lumpur – Tamil Nadu state government’s Minister for Education and Sports Sengottayan KA, announced several initiatives on the part of India’s state government of Tamil Nadu to support Tamil education in Malaysia.
Sengottayan made this announcement at the “Tamil Teachers awards” ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday organised by the Education Ministry. He was the guest of honour at the ceremony on the invitation of Education Ministry.
Noting that he was delighted to see that Tamil education through the Tamil schools has continued for 200 years said that the present Tamil Nadu government is ready and willing to support the growth of Tamil language in other parts of the world.
“As a first step, we are sending 5,000 Tamil books to the Malaysian Libraries” Sengottayan announced amidst applause from the participants.
At the same ceremony yesterday, Sengottayan also announced that the Tamil Nadu government would donate 100,000 Tamil books to the libraries in Jaffna, Sri Lanka by December this year. “The Tamil Nadu government is committed to resurrecting the Tamil libraries in Jaffna which were destroyed during the civil war,” he said.
Sengottayan also congratulated the award recipients of “Best Tamil Teachers award” for their dedication and sacrifice for the development of Tamil education in the country and delighted them with an award of 500,000 rupees to be shared by all of them which will be presented to them later in a function in Tamil Nadu.
Sengottayan also informed that his Ministry is preparing a curriculum book for Tamil language and will send to Malaysia “any number of copies as requested”.
MIC President Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam, Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia T.S.Trimurthi, Deputy Minister of Education Datuk P.Kamalanathan and several other dignitaries also attended the awards ceremony.
