mca-gen-secKUALA LUMPUR, March 27 – DAP’s refusal to use the 10-minute airtime provided to all political parties to present their manifesto shows that the opposition has no confidence in its empty and unrealistic election promises.

MCA Youth secretary-general Datuk Chai Kim Sen said today that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng should appreciate this opportunity if the party had a good manifesto.

“Previously, Lim repeatedly criticised the government-run television station for not providing a platform for the opposition parties to broadcast their election manifesto. But now that the platform has been given, they give all sorts of excuses like ‘giving us 10 minutes of airtime does not mean we have freedom of speech’.

“Lim may roll out unfeasible policies and development models, but for Pakatan Rakyat to say that 10 minutes are insufficient time is an excuse to dodge appearing on state airtime,” he said in a statement.

Chai said the opposition pact had failed to come up with proper policies  and economic development models while neglecting mother-tongue education and the interests of non-Muslims.

“Going by conservative statistics, 200 words may be spoken in one minute and 10 minutes are adequate time to speak 2,000 words.

“If Lim has a solid argument, 10 minutes are more than enough,” he said.
