google+_gmailNew Delhi, December  4 – Gmail users will now have an easier time of editing Microsoft Office documents. Now, just by clicking a dedicated button placed next to the download a file or save to Google Drive options, users can start editing a document. Google automatically downloads and converts the Office file to the Google Docs format.

“With just one click on the new edit icon in Gmail attachments, you can automatically convert Office documents — giving you the additional benefits of a single document to keep track of, access from anywhere (even offline!), and revision history,” the company announced in Google+ post.

The search giant has also added support for 15 Office formats on Google’s Docs, Slides and Sheets suite of apps. Docs now adds support for dot, dotx, dotx, dotm, and docm. Sheets adds support for xlt, xltx, xltm, xlsm files and Slides can now run pot, potx, potm, pptm, pps, ppsx, ppsm file formats.

Using a Chrome extension, the users can also edit their files in the native Office formats. Of late, Google has been in overdrive mode in updating its services. It recently released Android Lollipop and has been aggressively updating its core apps like Gmail, and Google Maps.
