TAWAU, March 14- Malaysia was on the right track when launching the offensive operation against the Sulu terrorists after the intrusion incident claimed the lives of several Malaysian security forces personnel, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein(Pic) said.
“Believe me, we are doing the right thing and it’s the truth,” he told reporters after attending a special security briefing at Tawau police headquarters here today.
The minister was responding to the statement made by Abraham Idhirani, the spokesman of Jamilul Kiram who claimed to be the ‘Sultan of Sulu’, that Malaysia had violated the Geneva Convention in handling the terrorist intrusion in Lahad Datu.
Hishammuddin said the deaths of members of the national security forces shouldn’t be belittled as they died while fighting for their beloved country. As such, he said the ministry would leave it to the Attorney General to study the allegation, especially in the legislative context.
On the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), Hishammuddin said all quarters involved were working hard to make it a reality and that the progress was being monitored closely. He said there was no reason that could hamper the implementation of ESSCOM even though it involved monitoring the activities of people along 1,400km coastline.
