March 21,2013-Voting on the United States’ resolution on charges of war crimes by the Sri Lankan forces would take place at 10 am (local time; 2.30 pm Indian time) at the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) on Thursday.

According to sources in New Delhi, India would look to force amendments to the American resolution against Sri Lanka saying the island nation has failed to fulfil its international obligations promised after the fall of the LTTE in 2009.

The US had adopted a similar resolution last year with India’s support which bound Sri Lanka to make rapid progress on reconciliation with the ethnic Tamils.

Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris earlier said in Colombo that his country would reject the final draft of the resolution submitted at the UNHRC which seeks to discredit and single out the nation over alleged human rights violations.
