31 December 2017 – dateline for Conversion of PIO cards to OCI cards

PIO-OCI-MergerKuala Lumpur – In a press statement released recently the Indian High Commission has advised holders of PIO cards to convert it before 31st of December this year.

The following is the full text of the press statement released by Indian High Commission:

“Please note that the dateline for conversion from PIO to OCI cards is December 31, 2017. Therefore, all PIO card holders, who have not yet applied for conversion, are advised to submit their application for issue of OCI card (in lieu of valid PIO card) before 29th December, 2017 (30th and 31st December are closed holidays).

Please note that the International Civil Aviation Organisation has specified that only machine readable travel documents would be acceptable w.e.f. October 2018. Those traveling to India on the strength of handwritten PIO cards after October, 2018 will not be allowed entry at the Indian Immigration counters and will be sent back.

Please note that the conversion process to OCI card till 29th December 2017 is GRATIS but after expiry of deadline, any request for conversion of PIO Card to OCI Card would attract a fee of RM1245 which is same as the application fee for fresh OCI. Therefore, all PIO card holders, who have not yet converted their PIO cards to OCI cards are required to fill up the OCI online application form (https://passport.gov.in/oci) and upload the photograph (size 2×2 inch, white background), signature, copy of current Malaysian/Foreign Passport and PIO card (first and last page). Original and hardcopy of Malaysian/Foreign Passport and PIO card should thereafter be brought along for verification along with the printout of the application form submitted online to the High Commission of India at the time of submission at Menara 1, Mont Kiara, Level 28, No. 1 Jalan Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur on any working day between 9.30 am to 12 noon.
