27 March 2013-Holi festival may be grandly celebrated only in North India but the day will also be colourful for Rajinikanth fans. Why? Well, it is on this day in 1975 the superstar was christened as Rajinikanth. Yes, the ordinary bus driver, whose original name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad of Bangalore, at one time was named as Rajinikanth by his mentor in 1975.
Legendary director K Balachander gave the name to the budding actor and the rest is in the books of history! It is said that K Balachander asked the superstar to choose one among the three names: Chandrakanth, Srikanth and Rajinikanth.
The Endhiran actor left the decision to his mentor to select the perfect name even though the last name mentioned by the director was also his favourite choice. K Balachander without any hesitation choose Rajinikanth as the screen name and cast him in National Award winning film Apoorva Raagangal.
