KUALA LUMPUR – The police have been unable to verify from the Chinese authorities whether Malaysian businessman Low Taek Jho (pic), often called Jho Low, has been arrested in China as claimed by a news portal, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

Jho Low is being sought to assist in the investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

“We checked with the Chinese police and embassy on the claim but could not get any verification,” he said after former Bukit Aman Director of Management Datuk Seri Abdul Ghafar Rajab handed over duties to the new director, Datuk Asri Yusoff, at Bukit Aman.

The Sarawak Report portal had reported on Wednesday that a radio station in Hong Kong had broadcast a report that Jho Low had been arrested in China.

The Malaysian Immigration authorities revoked the passport of Jho Low on June 15 at the request of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which is seeking him to assist in the investigation into the 1MDB scandal.
