PUTRAJAYA – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed the arrest of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor in connection with a money laundering probe after receiving consent to prosecute from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
The MACC in a statement yesterday said the arrest was made at 3.20 pm at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
“Following the arrest, Rosmah will face several charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Prevention of Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001.
“Rosmah will be brought to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Oct 4 (tomorrow), at 8.00 am to be charged,” MACC said.
Rosmah arrived at the MACC headquarters here at 10.45 am after being summoned by the commission to be questioned for the third time.
Media reports on Tuesday (October 2) had said that Rosmah had been asked to present herself to the MACC headquarters this morning to assist its investigations.
The media had earlier speculated that Rosmah would be charged on Thursday.
She first presented herself to the MACC on June 5 to give a statement related to the MACC’s probe into SRC International Sdn Bhd.
SRC was a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) before its was placed under the Finance Ministry in 2012.
On Sept 26, Rosmah was questioned by the MACC for almost 13 hours.
Prior to this, the media had reported that Rosmah is likely to face more than 20 criminal charges, mostly related to money laundering.
On Sept 20, MACC deputy chief commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki had said that the agency did not rule out the possibility that Rosmah might face charges soon.
