KUALA LUMPUR — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he is the party’s acting chairman as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had resigned as chairman on Feb 24.
In a statement today, Muhyiddin said Clause 16.9 of the Bersatu constitution stipulates that if the chairman resigns or is terminated, the party president shall hold the post in an acting capacity until an election is held to pick the new chairman.
“Bersatu has yet to hold an election to elect the new chairman. Therefore, I, as the party president, will be the acting chairman of Bersatu until the election is held,” he said.
