MUAR, April 19 – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri today reminded all quarters to extend their cooperation to ensure a peaceful and orderly 13th General Election, nomination for which is tomorrow and polling on May 5. He said the democratic process, which had been held 12 times now, should be allowed to proceed smoothly.
The main thing was to fulfil the responsibility, to make the important decision for the future so that the country remained peaceful and prosperous, he said after attending Friday prayers at the Kampung Simpang Baba Mosque, here. Muhyiddin said the peace enjoyed all this while was a reward that could not be viewed lightly.
Citing the chaos in Syria, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Lebanon, he said these Islamic countries still failed to secure peace because of the internal conflicts.
“We are only able to appreciate peace when we are threatened. Peace and security can only be achieved if the leaders and the people work together. We have lived well for more than 56 years and enjoyed the fruits,” he said.
Muhyiddin said the next five years were a crucial period to ensure that the objective of making Malaysia a developed nation by 2020 was achieved. He said it was hoped that the people would make a wise decision on May 5 because the development planned would only be successful with their support. Muhyiddin had lunch with the mosque officials.
