Canon launches 12 new cameras, 5 with Wi-Fi

April 23, 2013-Canon India on Tuesday launched 12 new cameras in India, increasing the company’s portfolio in the imaging space to 40 devices. The new cameras will be in the Powershot, IXUS, DSLR and Cinema camera ranges.

Interestingly, the company has started to make Wi-Fi a standard in mid-level cameras starting as low as Rs 9,995. Five of the new models will have wireless capabilities. The two new DSLR models, the EOS 100D and the 700D, will come with 18 MP CMOS sensor.

Dr Alok Bharadwaj, executive vice president of Canon India, said it expects to clock a turnover of Rs 2015 crore by the end of this fiscal, a growth of 15 per cent. In 2012, the company did business of Rs 1,850, up 21 per cent. He said the worrying factor for camera makers was the shrinking of the entry-level camera segment, which in India is worth Rs 1,000 crore.

The entire sector is now pegged at Rs 4,000 crore, half of which comes from DSLR cameras and lenses. The remaining Rs 1,000 crore is contributed by functional compacts. He said the DSLR segment in India was growing by about 20 per cent every year.

canon-powershot-n-compact-camera_505_042313052001Along with the new range of wireless-enabled cameras Canon has also launched its ‘Image Gateway’ which will let members upload, store and share photos.

The new PowerShot cameras 2500, 2600, A3500 and N will be priced between Rs 5,995 and Rs 20,995. The IXUS 132, 135, 140 and 255HS will cost between Rs 7,995 and Rs 12,995. The EOS 100D and 700D DSLRs will be priced Rs 48,995 and Rs 53,995 respectively. The EOS C100 and 1DC Cinema cameras will be priced upwards of Rs 5,00,000.
